【Upcoming Event】An Evening with Guanghua - Chinese Economy in the Changing World

China has become more integrated with the world economy and the international system. Today, the world we live in has been witnessing political, social and economic turbulence and uncertainty. What role does China play today and how do these developments critically impact the global economy? What insights can be offered on the Chinese economic development?

Speakers in Alphabetical Order

Hongbin Cai

Dr. Hongbin Cai is currently Professor in Economics and Dean of Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. He taught at University of California, Los Angeles before moving back to Peking University. He is a National Chang Jiang Scholar (awarded by Ministry of Education of China) and a National Outstanding Young Researcher (awarded by National Science Foundation of China). Professor Cai has published many academic papers in top international journals in economics and finance, in a wide range of areas including game theory, Chinese economy, industrial organization and corporate finance. He is elected as a Fellow and a Council member of the Econometric Society. Professor Cai is a member of the National People’s Congress, and a member of the Central Committee of China Democratic League and Vice Chairman of its Committee of Economic Affairs. He was the founding president of The Chinese Finance Association (TCFA, overseas).

David P. Loevinger

Mr. Loevinger is a sovereign analyst in TCW's Emerging Marketsgroup, covering the Asian region. Prior to joining TCW in 2012, Mr. Loevingerwas the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Senior Coordinator for China Affairs andthe U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue. While at Treasury, he alsoserved as minister counselor for financial affairs at the U.S. embassy inBeijing and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Latin America, Asia, Africa and theMiddle East. Mr. Loevinger was previously an economist for the International MonetaryFund and also worked in the office of the IMF’s U.S. executive director. Hestarted his career in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the SenateBanking Committee, and the U.S. Commerce Department. Mr. Loevinger earned aMasters in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Governmentand a BA in Government and Economics from Dartmouth College.

Se Yan

Dr. Se Yan completed his PhD in Economics at UCLA and joined the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University in 2008. He is a Research Professor in the Department of Applied Economics. Dr. Yan's research specialties are economic history, development economics, macroeconomics and Chinese economy. Dr. Yan's research has been widely recognized by international academia. His dissertation, "Real Wagesand Wage Premia in China, 1860 to 1936" was awarded "the Best Dissertation Prize" at the 15th World Economic History Congress. His otherpapers have been published at "International Economic Review", "Explorations in Economic History" and so on. He has been recently invited to give talks at various universities, such as Harvard Business School, Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, University of Colorado at Boulder, HKUST, and Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Perry Wong

Perry Wong is managing director of research at the MilkenInstitute. Wong is an expert on regional economics, development and econometricforecasting and specializes in analyzing the structure, industry mix,development and public policies of a regional economy. He designs, manages andperforms research on labor and workforce issues, the relationship betweentechnology and economic development, and trade and industry, with a focus onpolicy development and implementation of economic policy in both leading anddisadvantaged regions.

Wong isactively involved in projects aimed at increasing access to technology andregional economic development in California and the American Midwest. His workextends to the international arena, where he is involved in regional economicdevelopment in southern China, Taiwan and other parts of Asia.
